# Install UniFi MCP Server with pip or uv

> Install the UniFi MCP Server from PyPI using pip or uv. Requires Python 3.10 or higher. The unifi-mcp-server command becomes available globally after install.

The UniFi MCP Server is published on [PyPI](https://pypi.org/project/unifi-mcp-server/) and can be installed with either `pip` or `uv`. Once installed, the `unifi-mcp-server` command is available globally in your terminal and can be referenced directly in your MCP client configuration.

<Info>
  Python 3.10 or higher is required. To check your version, run `python --version` or `python3 --version`.
</Info>

## Install the package

Choose your preferred package manager. Both install the same package from PyPI.

<CodeGroup>
  ```bash pip theme={null}
  pip install unifi-mcp-server
  ```

  ```bash uv theme={null}
  uv pip install unifi-mcp-server
  ```
</CodeGroup>

After installation, the `unifi-mcp-server` command is available globally in your shell.

## Run without installing

If you want to run the server without a permanent install, `uvx` fetches and executes the package directly from PyPI in an isolated environment:

```bash theme={null}
uvx unifi-mcp-server
```

<Tip>
  `uvx` is ideal for MCP client configurations where you want to keep the host environment clean. It always pulls the latest published version unless you pin a version with `uvx unifi-mcp-server==0.2.4`.
</Tip>

## Verify the installation

After installing, confirm the command is available:

```bash theme={null}
unifi-mcp-server --help
```

You should see the server's help output listing available options.

## Install a specific version

To pin to a known-good release, specify the version number:

<CodeGroup>
  ```bash pip theme={null}
  pip install unifi-mcp-server==0.2.4
  ```

  ```bash uv theme={null}
  uv pip install unifi-mcp-server==0.2.4
  ```
</CodeGroup>

<Note>
  The current stable release is **0.2.4**. See the [PyPI release history](https://pypi.org/project/unifi-mcp-server/#history) for all available versions.
</Note>
