The UniFi MCP Server lets your AI assistant manage every WiFi network (SSID) on your site—from creating a secure WPA3 corporate network to spinning up a guest hotspot with VLAN isolation. You can update passwords, enable or disable SSIDs, and pull live statistics on connected clients and bandwidth, all through natural language.

What you can do

Create SSIDs

Add new wireless networks with WPA2 or WPA3 security in seconds.

Guest networks

Create isolated guest networks with VLAN segmentation and guest-mode flagging.

Update and delete

Change passwords, security modes, VLAN IDs, or disable SSIDs on the fly.

WiFi statistics

See client counts and bandwidth usage per SSID in real time.

Listing WiFi networks

Example prompts:
  • “Show all WiFi networks on this site”
  • “Which SSIDs are enabled?”
  • “What security mode is the corporate WiFi using?”
Response:

Creating a WiFi network

The create_wlan tool creates a new SSID on your site. All creation operations require confirm=True. Use dry_run=True to preview the configuration before applying it.
Creating, modifying, or deleting WiFi networks requires confirm=True. Passwords are automatically masked in audit logs—they are never stored in plain text.

Create a corporate WPA3 network

Example prompt: “Create a new WiFi network called ‘Staff’ with WPA3 security”

Create a guest WiFi with VLAN isolation

Guest networks keep visitor traffic isolated from your corporate LAN. Setting is_guest=True enables UniFi’s guest policies, and vlan_id assigns the traffic to a dedicated VLAN. Example prompt: “Create a guest WiFi on VLAN 100 with a simple password”

WPA mode comparison

Use wpa3 for corporate networks where all devices support it. Use wpa2 for guest networks to maximize compatibility with visitor devices.

Updating a WiFi network

Use update_wlan to change the password, security mode, VLAN, or enable/disable an SSID. Example prompts:
  • “Change the guest WiFi password to ‘NewPass456’”
  • “Disable the ‘Testing’ SSID”
  • “Move the IoT WiFi to VLAN 30”
You can update any combination of fields in a single call:

Deleting a WiFi network

Example prompt: “Delete the old ‘Temp-WiFi’ network”

WiFi statistics

The get_wlan_statistics tool returns connected client counts and total bandwidth usage for each SSID on your site. Example prompts:
  • “How many clients are connected to the guest WiFi?”
  • “What’s the bandwidth usage on each SSID?”
Response:
To get statistics for a single SSID, pass the optional wlan_id parameter:

Advanced SSID options

When creating an SSID, you can also configure:
  • AP group targeting — Broadcast an SSID on a specific subset of access points using ap_group_ids and ap_group_mode.
  • Band selection — Restrict an SSID to 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz using wlan_bands: ["2g"] or ["5g"].
  • IoT optimization — Enable IoT-friendly settings with optimize_iot_wifi_connectivity: True.
  • Minimum data rate — Set a minimum 2.4 GHz data rate with minrate_ng_enabled and minrate_ng_data_rate_kbps.
